As part of the Emerald Isle, Galway is no exception in being green. In 2017 Galway City was awarded the European Green Leaf and was the first Irish city to be awarded due to our commitments. Galway City Council also provides environmental support with annual funding that is made available to groups and individuals. The scheme covers a wide variety of environmental projects on topics such as waste, water quality, air quality, biodiversity, sustainability and climate change. Galway is also a University City with our largest university (NUI Galway) being crowed ‘Green Campus’ and ‘Green Flag’ award. With European Capital of Culture 2020 around the corner Galway will take this opportunity to enrich the awareness by showcasing the impacts of climate change with a fusion culture, landscape and art.
