Malmö Festival is Scandinavia's largest festival in the urban environment and this entails a great responsibility. 2009 began a systematic work that the festival will affect the environment less for each year that passes. The work has been praised and received a number of awards . In 2014 , we were once again the trust of internationally recognized " A Greener Festival Award" and the Swedish " Environment labeled Event - Keep Sweden Tidy " . In 2013, Malmö hosted the Eurovision Song Contest with around 100 000 visitors. The city is so proud that we managed with the ISO certification of the Eurovision , ISO 20121. It succeeded so well , which means that it is possible to implement sustainable meetings and events in the future .

The Malmö commission on social sustainability was the first local commission of its kind in the world. It was modelled on the WHO commission on social determinants of health and its report "Closing the gap in generation". Thanks to the work of the Malmö commission the City of Malmö iss considered amog the leading cities in the world when it comes to conscious determined work on changing the social determinants affecting health. According to the European Commission´s yearly Eurobarometer of quality of life Malmö ends up at number 7.

City of Malmö is renowned for its transformation from a grey industrial city to a green city of knowledge. Flagship projects like the old shipyard area Western Harbour which has been transformed into a residential and office space area with renewable energy solutions, green roofs and car pools. In the year of 2030 Malmö will be supplied by 100% renewable energy and wind power in Malmö already power 60 000 households in the region. Malmö has also been awarded the 6th most bicycle friendly city in the world and has around 500 km of cycle tracks. The public transport is driven by biogas, and biogas is produced from the city’s organic waste and sewage. It is easy to be green when arranging events in Malmö, and there is a history of hosting green events from smaller happenings to larger such as the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013.
